The flydubai hijacking story

A flydubai flight to Tel Aviv dived, transmitted a hijack code and landed in Saudi Arabia on 29 September 2026. Within six days, twenty outlets in two languages had carried it, and the account changed as it travelled: a feared hijacking, then Iranian involvement attributed to officials who were not named, then a fight between the two pilots in the cockpit. This page holds every version in the order it was published, so the changes are visible side by side instead of each one replacing the last. Watch the wording timeline and the unnamed-sourcing list below: those are the two places where this story's shape shows.

How it spread

The bars are how many headlines ran each day. The line is how many different outlets had joined by then. When that line climbs a cliff, the press arrived together.

Who went first, and who followed

Ordered by each outlet's first headline, timed from the very first one. This is measured from when the scanner saw each item, not from when it was published, so treat gaps of minutes as noise and gaps of days as real.

Which words arrived when

Each tracked phrase, in the order it first appeared, with who used it first. A story whose vocabulary changes while the underlying facts do not is the pattern this tool was built to catch.

How much rests on nobody in particular

Headlines in this formation whose claim is attributed to officials or sources who are not named. This is the shape where an anonymous account enters as attributed, gets repeated, and is being written as settled fact a day later.

12 of 269 = 4.5%

Read the denominator before the number. This counts only the headline and whatever summary the feed supplies — a median of about 220 characters — so sourcing language that appears further down an article is invisible to it. A low percentage here means little of it was visible in the feed, not that the coverage is well sourced.

Institutes and official bodies in this

All of these followed the press rather than preceding it. Listed anyway, because an institute amplifying a story is still part of the picture — but none of them led it, and this page should not imply otherwise.

Every headline, and why it counted

Nothing is in this formation without a stated reason you can check. Where the reason is a phrase, the phrase is quoted — open the headline and look for it.
